The greatest speech of this generation

Most political speeches are forgettable. And much of the oratory from leaders of both parties during our current century has been truly intolerable.

That all changed on October 7, 2026, with a speech by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, delivered in the shadow of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.

It was the greatest political speech in a generation — or more. It rivals Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream,” President Kennedy’s “Ask not what your country can do for you,” and Ronald Reagan’s “Tear down this wall.”

Neither the setting nor the date of Rubio’s speech was accidental.

Athens was arguably the birthplace of Western civilization. That tradition began with the philosophers of ancient Greece, survived the long medieval centuries, flowered again in the art of the Renaissance, and powered the science of Enlightenment empiricism. No civilization is perfect but this one built the modern world.

Sadly, far too many in the West reject our birthright. They see only its faults, romanticize a socialism that has failed from Moscow to Caracas, and make common cause with the barbarous Islamism of Hamas that despises everything the West has built.

Rubio spoke on the third anniversary of October 7, 2023, when Hamas terrorists carried out a religiously fueled massacre of some 1,200 innocent people in Israel — murdering, raping and kidnapping — and gleefully broadcast much of it to the world.

His speech unapologetically described what’s at stake. In this, our nation’s 250th year, it’s worth remembering that the Constitution was written to preserve the inheritance of Western civilization — to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” Watch the speech. Then watch it again with your family and talk about it. And pass it on.
